THE SEA ICE/ HAVISEN
THE STORY OF THE GREENLANDIC SEA MOTHER
the sea mother dining table is an interpretation of the sea ice and the story of the greenlandic sea mother.
In the past the Inuits believed that there was a woman in the ocean controlling all sea animals - They called her the Sea Mother.
The Inuits thought that when there was no seals to hunt and no fish to catch, the Sea Mother was angry with the people living on land from not taking care of nature, and the only way
to make her happy again, was to make the shaman travel to her house in the ocean. The shaman found the Sea Mother in her house with filtered hair by all the misdeeds that the people had done.
Not before the shaman had taking out all the misdeeds from the Sea Mother's hair the sea animals would not be released.
The tabletop is made of recycled glass. Different techniques will be used to create the pattern, which will be in collaboration with Maj-Britt Zelmer Olsen.
The welded frame is made of casted iron and a stone base of greenlandic granite with a cutout of a face will stabilise the fundament of the table.
