ABOUT

The Greenlandic / Danish architect Aviaaja Ezekiassen works in the field of architecture, exhibition-, interior- & product design. Her work is informed by her background with a Bachelor degree in architecture, Master degree in design and from her time at Oslo Fotokunstskole where she studied art photography. Her references is among others Birger 1962, Moesgaard Museum and Louis Vuitton, and she has been working in Greenland, Norway and Denmark.

Aviaaja combines her bachelor degree in architecture and her master degree in design using skills and methods she has acquired while working with both scales and is passionate about creating an overall connection between the scales. She's driven by incorporating the storytelling in her work. Stories that are told in a subtle and unobtrusive way with focus on aesthetics, materials, colors and tactile surfaces.

In 2016, Aviaaja worked as an exhibition architect at Moesgaard Museum and was head designer of the permanent Stone Age exhibition that opened in October 2016. She's now based in Copenhagen and working as a designer at BIRGER 1962 that will launch a range of interior and design products in January 2018 in Paris.

In February Aviaaja will be at Statens Værksteder for Kunst with a project about greenlandic design. She's passionate about studying what it takes to perceive a design as being greenlandic or a danish design. The project will work with (re)defining what greenlandic design is in a contemporary perspective. As Aviaaja also has a Danish background she wants to try to merge danish design traditions with greenlandic design traditions to see what happens in this meeting.

EMPLOYER

"She has a strong eye and sense for details, good quality and is pro-active on issue. She solves the daily problems, and makes things not possible, possible. She is team player and a strong young woman born in Greenland and has a very special mind and soul. She has patience!
I believe that her strength built on her upbringing. Her sense “cutting into the bone” is something I have valued. She is a modern woman, with many possibilities ahead." Malene Birger, BIRGER1962

Peter Barfoed, Tegnestuen Nuuk
